Troegs Rugged Trail Nut Brown Ale

Posted by Charlie Mopps on August 12, 2007

Rating: 4 of 4

An American brown ale that doesn’t try to overwhelm with hops; just a smooth, drinkable and extremely tasty brew. Worthy of a case purchase.

Another winner from the Troegs team!

Festina Peche, Dogfish Head Brewery (Milton, DE)

Posted by Charlie Mopps on July 13, 2007

Rating: 2 of 4

Tart, strange tasting brew (malt beverage, actually), made with peach concentrate, that was actually quite refreshing. I wouldn’t rush out to get another, but it wasn’t bad at all.

Consumed at home, purchased at TJ’s Everyday.

Black Dog Ale, Spanish Peaks Brewing Company (Bozeman, Montana)

Posted by Charlie Mopps on July 12, 2007

Rating: 2 of 4

Drinkable, but somewhat pedestrian, and a little of that “microbrew” bitterness. A tad watery at the finish, although it’s subtitle “English Brown Ale” seems to suggest that might be intentional.

Consumed at home, purchased at TJ’s Everyday.

Ellie’s Brown, Avery Brewing (Boulder, Colorado)

Posted by Charlie Mopps on July 12, 2007

Rating: 1 of 4

Overly hoppy for a true brown ale, this baby was too bitter for my taste. I prefer a smoother, more drinkable brown.

Consumed at home; purchased at TJ’s Everyday in Paoli.

Flying Fish Sampler (Cherry Hill, NJ)

Posted by Charlie Mopps on July 7, 2007

Extra Pale Ale: smooth and crisp, great for a summer day (2 of 4)

Farmhouse Summer Ale: a mild dose of wheat makes this a little more rustic than the Pale (2 of 4)

HopFish IPA: Not as hoppy as some, but still too much for me. (1 of 4)

Tasted at TJ’s Everyday.

Ridgeway Bitter

Posted by Charlie Mopps on July 4, 2007

Rating: 4 of 4

Unlike many English bitter ales, the Ridgeway is not overly hoppy, creating a much more drinkable beer. Plus, it comes in a really big bottle.

CAMRA approved as “real ale”

Consumed at home as part of QBR case.
